Synopsis

Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah is a volunteer for Doctors Without Borders, treating the wounded amid relentless airstrikes and devastation. 
In 2024 the British-Palestinian surgeon faced a ban from entering and speaking publicly in Germany, which effectively became a full Schengen-area ban. It was ultimately overturned by the courts after German authorities failed to provide evidence that his entry posed any credible threat. 
The film follows his sixth and most harrowing experience in Gaza, revealing his family’s fears as well as the enduring passion that drives his humanitarian mission.

Adapted from Ghassan Kanafani’s novel Men in the Sun, and recently restored, this landmark of Arab cinema lays bare the despair of displacement and the complicity of Arab regimes in the refugees’ suffering.

In 2002, during Israel’s invasion of Jenin refugee camp, journalists were barred and war crime accusations emerged. Filmmaker Mohammad Bakri entered to record residents’ testimonies, giving voice to those silenced. The film was banned, sparking legal battles and accusations from soldiers. 
Years later, Israel’s Supreme Court overturned the ban, restoring this raw account of a community under siege.
