Letters from Transit explores migration not as a completed journey, but as a persistent, lifelong state of being—an interior landscape where the "Obour/Crossing" is never fully left behind. These films serve as cinematic dispatches from the "in-between," reading like urgent diary entries written from a place with no fixed address. The selection includes Taste of Arrival: The Journey of Hasan Al Hasan, where a father trapped by Swiss residency restrictions battles despair and clings to hope as he navigates daily life apart from his family. In Bless Your Hand, the program steps into a London kitchen where a mother and daughter cook 'Maqlooba,' transforming a recipe into a poetic meditation on how Middle Eastern memory travels, transforms, and endures across generations. The program also features Bitter Greens, Tangled Roots, a conversation between a brother and sister that tackles the shared pain of being uprooted from their family’s ancestral olive trees. In The Circus Team, the focus shifts to a profound form of emotional transit and resilience, chronicling a group of performers who utilize the holy month of Ramadan to bring vital joy to Gazan children—carrying out their crucial work in the total absence of institutional psychological support systems.
This screening is presented as part of Alobour (The Crossing) fundraiser, an initiative dedicated to crossing cultures by weaving Arabic tunes and melodies into Berlin's contemporary soundscape. Bringing together musicians, filmmakers, and experimental artists, the event moves dynamically between heritage, psychedelia, improvisation, cinema, and dancefloor resistance, with 50% of the proceeds directly supporting the artists of the Gaza Free Circus and Boulabn Lebanon Circus.
