Between the Tides navigates the high-pressure zones where the personal meets the political and survival is found in the gaps. This curation explores the "in-between"—the fragile friction of lives suspended between memory and a collapsing present. The program anchors in the fractured timelines of Fi Alwasat, where a paper airplane folded during an invasion becomes a desperate attempt to keep hope airborne across years of conflict. This internal resistance shifts to Zawaya, as Siham fights an oppressive virtual system with the raw power of her imagination, and peaks in Objects Are Closer Than They Appear, where a failed date and a family robbery strip away Naeem’s social armor, forcing a visceral reckoning with self-shame. The tide pulls toward the subconscious in I Loved You When I Closed My Eyes, following a dreamer chasing an intimacy that only exists behind shut eyelids, before finding a brief, sun-drenched sanctuary in This Is My Best Life, capturing three children at the shoreline of their "best" days. Finally, Until the End captures the collision of devotion and history, as a kid’s obsession with Zamalek FC is swept up in the tidal surge of the stadium and the unraveling political transformation of Egypt. These films offer a raw look at the grit required to stay human—to dream, to play, and to endure—while caught in the relentless ebb and flow of a world in flux.
